World’s largest solar park in Karnataka - Fusion - WeRindia

Solar power in India is quickly developing. Several states are generating and using solar energy to meet the needs of the citizens.

As the population is growing, conventional energy sources are not exactly sufficient to satisfy the needs of the people. Hence solar energy is a good source for the future generations.

Rajasthan is one of the most solar developed states in India.

Andhra Pradesh is also ahead in using solar energy. The Kurnool Ultra Mega Solar Park has become the largest solar power plant in the world with the generation of 1000 Mega Watt.

Now, India moved a step forward in achieving another milestone with another major solar power generation park. The world’s largest part was inaugurated in Karnataka.

Yesterday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the Pavagada Solar Park. It is the largest solar park in the world with a 2000 Mega Watt (MW) capacity spread over 13,000 acres. The land is spread across five villages.

The cost of the project is ₹16,500 crore. The solar park is named as the Shakti Sthala. It is situated at Pavagada in Tumakuru district of Karnataka.

The solar park is aimed to help improve the lives of 2,300 farmers by earning up to ₹21,000 per acre of land. The park is a first of its kind.

Pavagada is mainly selected as it is the most drought-prone state. Due to water problems, several people have been migrating from there since a decade.

By installing the largest solar park in this region, the aim of the government is to help local farmers by creating unlimited clean energy.

The overall power generation capacity of Karnataka has been increased from 14,030 MW in 2012-13 to 23,379 MW in January this year.
