PM Suryodaya Yojana unveiled
In a significant move toward sustainable energy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana.
This initiative, announced during the Ayodhya Ram Temple consecration ceremony, promises to revolutionize household electricity consumption across India.
Aimed primarily at the economically weaker sections and the middle class, the scheme encourages the use of solar energy to fulfil electricity needs.
In addition, it also offers a pathway to additional income through surplus power generation.
Under the PM Suryodaya Yojana, households can install solar rooftop systems, converting their rooftops into power generators. These not only cut down electricity bills but also contribute to making them self-sufficient in energy needs.
This plan focuses on poor and middle-class families, ensuring that they can participate with minimal investment.
Launched on 22 January 2024, the scheme underscores India’s commitment to becoming energy self-reliant. It targets an installed solar power capacity of 73.31 GW by December 2023, with rooftop solar contributing 11.08 GW.
Eligibility criteria for the scheme are straightforward: applicants must be Indian citizens with an annual income not exceeding ₹1 to 1.5 lakh, excluding government employees.
Required documents for application include an Aadhar card, income and domicile certificates, an electricity bill, a bank passbook, a passport-size photo, and a ration magazine.
To apply, beneficiaries must visit the official website, select their state and district, and provide necessary details, including electricity and solar panel specifications.
The application process is designed to be user-friendly, ensuring wide accessibility.
Successful applicants will receive financial assistance covering 40% of the solar rooftop project’s capital cost, directly credited to their bank accounts.
The PM Suryodaya Yojana not only aims at reducing the electricity bills for millions but also aligns with India’s green energy goals.
By promoting solar energy, the scheme is set to pave the way for a sustainable energy future, benefiting the environment and the economy alike.
