Obama calls Modi in his last days
With US president elect Donald Trump ready for his inauguration as the President of the United States, the current President Barack Obama spent his final days of presidency reviewing the work that has been done between the US and other countries including India.
In order to wrap things up, he called Prime Minister Narendra Modi to review all the progress made between the US and India.
Indian Prime Minster Narendra Modi gave his wishes for the outgoing US President and wished him the best of luck for his future endeavours.
Modi also gave his thanks to Obama for strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The ministry of external affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup said that both leaders have made a review all of that has been done together.
Both the leaders were satisfied with the progress and cooperation between the two countries in the last few years he said.
A readout from the White House stated that Obama also thanked Modi for his partnership and both of them together reviewed on the call about the cooperation in various fields like defence, civil nuclear energy, and enhanced people-to-people ties.
The statement further said that President Obama also talked about him being called as the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations in 2015.
He gave his congratulations to Prime Minister Modi as the 68th Republic Day anniversary of India is upcoming.
The two leaders held a simple talk regarding the progress they have made on economy and security priorities.
India is also now recognized as one of the Major Defense Partner of the United States.
They also talked about issues related to climate change.
In his eight years of US presidency, Obama visited India twice.
His presidency ended yesterday on Friday.
He will be followed by President-elect Donald Trump as the 45th American President.
Obama also gave his farewell to south Asian countries like Afghanistan.
