Young innovation bridging technology and agriculture
In a world increasingly driven by software, artificial intelligence, and service-based careers, agriculture often struggles to attract attention.
However, innovation continues to emerge from unexpected places, reshaping how farming challenges are addressed.
One such inspiring example is the journey of Guttula Anushka, a young student whose idea is gaining national and international recognition.
Her project, titled Multi-Purpose Agricultural Tool for Small-Scale Farmers, was designed to simplify farming activities through a single compact device.
Instead of using multiple tools, this innovation integrates several essential functions into one system.
It supports irrigation, fertiliser distribution, seed sowing, furrow preparation, and soil covering. As a result, it reduces both labour intensity and operational costs for small and marginal farmers.
Built with basic materials such as wood and plastic, the prototype was developed at a cost of just ₹3,000.
Despite its simplicity, the tool stood out for its practical application and farmer-friendly design. It was recognised at a national-level science fair held in New Delhi, where it was selected among the top innovations.
Consequently, it earned a place in the prestigious Sakura Science Exchange Programme, scheduled to be held in Tokyo.
Anushka’s journey reflects resilience as much as creativity. Coming from a modest family in Kakinada, she studied in a government school from primary to secondary education.
Her father works as a mason, while her mother is employed in a private hospital. Despite financial limitations, her family consistently supported her academic aspirations.
Her progress was guided by KSR Chandra Reddy, who encouraged her to participate in science fairs from the school level onwards.
Under his mentorship, her idea evolved through district, state, and national platforms before reaching international recognition.
At a time when many young minds are drawn toward urban careers, this innovation highlights the importance of agriculture and rural technology.
It also demonstrates how simple, affordable solutions can have a meaningful impact on farming communities.
Anushka’s achievement is more than a personal milestone. It represents a shift in perspective, where education, innovation, and agriculture come together to build a more sustainable and inclusive future for farmers.
