Young innovator Subash develops solar-powered seed drill
Where there is a will, there is a way. This schoolboy proved it once again by innovating a machine to help farmers.
Subash Chandra Bose, a school student from Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu, has invented a solar-powered seed drill. The seed drill simplifies the planting process for farmers.
This innovative machine can handle seeds of varying sizes and plant them at adjustable depths and intervals, making it a valuable tool for modern agriculture.
Growing up in a farming family, Subash is well aware of the difficulties farmers face, especially the scarcity of labour for tasks like ploughing, sowing, and harvesting.
The idea of innovating the seed drill came to his mind when he was sowing seeds. He wanted to develop an eco-friendly seed drill. Besides, he thought of designing a machine that could address the labour shortage issues.
The seed drill consists of a seeding unit with a hopper that holds seeds. A wooden roller with drilled holes transfers the seeds from the hopper to hoses, which then plant them in the ground.
This design ensures the precise placement of seeds, improving efficiency and reducing waste.
Subash’s ambitions extend beyond his invention.
He dreams of becoming a scientist specializing in agriculture and nature conservation, with a focus on promoting organic farming.
Subash says both nature and agriculture are very important. Everyone should understand how important they are to live happily.
Subash draws inspiration from Dr Sultan Ahmed, a vermicompost specialist, and Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
In addition to farming, he enjoys reading agricultural books, writing poems, and raising awareness about environmental issues.
This young innovator’s dedication to solving farming challenges through sustainable solutions is a testament to the potential of combining traditional wisdom with modern technology.
Subash’s solar-powered seed drill is not just a machine; it’s a step toward empowering farmers and promoting eco-friendly agriculture.
