Scrap tyres are converted to playgrounds | Fusion - WeRIndia

Recycling is gaining wide popularity now-a-days. Some are using waste products in an innovative way. Here is an example for that.

Anthill Creations, an architecture company in Bengaluru is using scrap tyres for building playgrounds and libraries for poor children.

The company was founded last year by IITians. They want to build a viable playground for underprivileged children. Souradeep is one of the cofounders of the company. He worked as an intern in Morocco for famous architect Aziza Chauni. She used recycled and scrap items.

Knowing the fact that each year as many as 981 million tyres in the world are creating landfills, Souradeep along with his team decided to make use of them in an innovative way. They wanted to save environment to a certain extent by doing so. Moreover, using scrap in an effective utilization facilitated them to cut costs.

They constructed their first playground at the Disha Seema Care Centre in IIT Kharagpur campus. Michelin tyres provided the company with old tyres for building recreation equipment in the playground. They got financial support from the alumni of the college as all of them were motivated by the innovative idea of using old and scrap tyres in an effective way.

According to Souradeep, constructing a playground with normal entertaining tools will at least cost Rs.2 lakh, but the use of scrap tyres helped them to build a playground only for Rs.20,000.

Later, they started collecting scrap tyres from garages for their other projects. The success of the company lies in involving the community in their projects. Moreover, they want to motivate children about recycling and sustainable use of scrap items.

The company is also helping children to get books in a library with the association of Mantra, an NGO. It also plans to build a library with a crowdfunding campaign.
