PM to Flag off Swachhagraha Express
In order to commemorate 100 years of the Champaran Satyagraha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be flagging off Swachhagraha Express from Motihari, Bihar next month.
It is an exhibition train that focuses mainly on cleanliness.
With its vast network, Indian Railways is playing a crucial role in Swachh Bharat Mission.
It is striving to keep stations clean. Several measures have been taken in this regard. Installation of bio-toilets is one of them.
The Swachhagraha Express is scheduled to be launched as part of Swachh Bharat Mission on April 10 by Indian Railways.
The train will have 14 coaches. Each coach of the train exhibits detailed milestones of the government in the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The cleanliness of water, hygiene and sanitation are showcased mainly.
The train is likely to highlight the efforts of Indian government towards cleanliness.
Since the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi falls in 2019, the train is also intended to create awareness on cleanliness among the people.
The Swachhagraha Express will travel in six months to 60 stations throughout the country showcasing the aspects of the cleanliness initiative by the government and its benefits to citizens.
In order to operate the train successfully, the ministries of railways, drinking water and sanitation will work collectively.
At present, the journey of the train is being finalized. The train will cover remote areas and stations.
Modi’s government started Swachh Bharat Mission on October 2, 2014 aiming to achieve a Clean India by October 2, 2019.
The above date is the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi hence the government wants to use it to build a clean India.
Utilising toilets, hygiene, clean water and many other issues related to cleanliness are some things which are to be covered by the train.
It also demonstrates adverse effects of open defecation on the environment.
