Now Aadhaar cardholders can update their details including date of birth, registered mobile number, email id etc. without submitting any documents.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced on Twitter that people can update various details on their Aadhaar cards without furnishing any documents.

Those who want to update the details including their photographs and biometrics can simply walk into an Aadhaar Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra with their Aadhaar card.

The Aadhaar Centres are run exclusively by the UIDAI are in many cities including Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Hisar, Bhopal and Chandigarh.

Aadhaar cardholders can contact them and get their details updated by showing their card to the authorities there.

The details that can be updated in the Aadhaar cards without documents are a name, date of birth, address, mobile number, email id and gender. Fresh Aadhaar cards can also be enrolled at the centres.

Yet, certain limits are prescribed to update the details. Date of birth and gender can be updated only once. Name can be updated two times.

If the age-gap limit is below or above three years, then it can be updated without any document. But, if the age-gap is more than that, people will have to visit the Regional Office of UIDAI in their areas.

Currently, except for the address, all other updates can be made only at Aadhaar Centres.

The address can be changed online also. However, the mobile number is mandatory to get the OTP to update the address on the Aadhaar card.

Aadhaar card is a 12-digit unique identification number. It is the largest biometric system in the world.

The data is collected and maintained by the UIDAI. It is a statutory body which was established in 2009 for this purpose.
