UIDAI extends free Aadhaar document update deadline till June 26
In a major relief for Aadhaar holders, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for free online document updates till June 14, 2026.
This move enables citizens to update their Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents without paying any fee, provided they do so via the MyAadhaar portal.
Earlier, this online service involved a fee of ₹50, while updates done at physical Aadhaar centres still require payment.
Now, the UIDAI aims to promote better data hygiene and help Aadhaar holders maintain accurate records, especially those who got their Aadhaar more than 10 years ago and haven’t updated their details since.
In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), UIDAI stated that it had extended the free online document upload facility till June 14, 2026, to benefit lakhs of Aadhaar number holders, and mentioned that this free service was available only on the MyAadhaar portal.
This service is particularly useful for those whose demographic details may have changed due to marriage, relocation, or other life events.
However, updates related to mobile number, email, biometrics (fingerprint, iris), or photo still require an in-person visit to an Aadhaar enrolment or update centre, with applicable fees.
Here is the procedure to update Aadhaar details online for free:
- Visit the MyAadhaar portal.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number, and log in to the portal.
- Check the displayed identity and address details. Click ‘I verify that the above details are correct’ if accurate.
- Choose the POI and POA documents from the drop-down lists.
- Upload scanned copies in JPEG, PNG, or PDF format. The size of these scanned copies should be under 2 MB.
- Finalise the submission.
Citizens are encouraged to use this extended window to keep their Aadhaar details up to date. After June 14, 2026, regular update charges may be reinstated.
