Free Aadhaar email updates: A limited-time opportunity

Keeping identity records current has become increasingly important in a digital-first world.

Recognising this need, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will offer free email ID updates in Aadhaar records for six months, from July 1 to December 31, 2026.

Currently, Aadhaar holders pay ₹75, including GST, to update a registered email address. However, during the announced period, users can make this change at no cost through the Aadhaar mobile application.

Meanwhile, standard charges may still apply if updates are made through other channels.

The initiative aims to encourage more people to maintain accurate contact information in their Aadhaar profiles.

An updated email address improves communication and strengthens security. As a result, users can receive important Aadhaar-related alerts and notifications directly in their inboxes.

In addition, a linked email ID helps users stay informed about any suspicious activity involving their Aadhaar.

Instant alerts allow quicker action whenever unusual usage is detected. Furthermore, the registered email becomes useful when recovering Aadhaar details, including the Aadhaar number or enrolment ID.

Another advantage is better visibility into Aadhaar authentication activities. Verification updates arrive directly through email, helping users track how and when their Aadhaar information is being used. Consequently, individuals gain greater control over their identity records.

Those unsure whether their email address is linked can verify it online through UIDAI’s official portal. To begin, visit the “My Aadhaar” section and choose the “Verify Email/Mobile Number” option.

Next, select “Verify Email Address” and enter the Aadhaar number, email ID, and captcha code. After submitting the details, an OTP will be sent to the registered email address.

Once the OTP is entered and verified, users will receive a confirmation message indicating successful Aadhaar authentication.

The temporary waiver offers a convenient opportunity for Aadhaar holders to review and update their contact details.

Therefore, anyone using an outdated email address or lacking one altogether can take advantage of the free service and ensure their Aadhaar information remains accurate, accessible, and secure.
