Indian Railways to run special trains for Diwali and Chhath Puja
As Diwali approached, Indian Railways decided to run many special trains for passengers.
It plans to run 7,000 special trains during Diwali and Chhath Puja this year.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed this move during a press briefing.
It aims to accommodate an additional two lakh passengers daily, a significant increase from last year, when 4,500 special trains were deployed for the festive season.
With growing passenger footfall, the Railway Ministry has decided to expand its services for 2024.
Northern Railway plays a crucial role in transporting passengers to eastern parts of the country during these festivals. It plans to operate around 3,050 trips of special trains.
This marks a substantial 181% increase in trips compared to the 1,082 operated by NR in 2023.
The increase in special train services demonstrates Indian Railways’ commitment to handling the surge in travel demand during Diwali and Chhath Puja.
The railways expect the additional trains to ease congestion and ensure smooth travel for millions across the country.
In addition to running special trains, Indian Railways is augmenting existing services by adding extra coaches to regular trains.
This strategy aims to boost capacity and accommodate more passengers during the festive rush.
The Northern Railway emphasized this in a recent statement, underlining their efforts to ensure people reach their destinations with ease.
The special train operations will particularly benefit travellers heading to the eastern regions of India, where Chhath Puja celebrations draw large numbers of people returning to their hometowns.
Indian Railways’ decision to run 7,000 special trains during the festive season highlights their proactive approach to managing the annual surge in passenger traffic.
With an 181% increase in services from Northern Railway alone, and additional coaches across various routes, passengers can expect smoother and more efficient travel during Diwali and Chhath Puja this year.
