Vande Metro: India's new age inter-city travel solution

India’s first Vande Metro is set to be virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat.

It is expected to revolutionise medium-distance travel.

The train departs from Bhuj and arrives in Ahmedabad. It covers 359 km in just 5.45 hours.

Beginning its regular service from September 17, passengers can travel this distance for ₹455.

Unlike traditional metro systems, which are confined to short urban routes, Vande Metro connects cities, expanding its reach from city centres to peripheral areas.

According to the Railway Ministry, this advanced metro system is designed with cutting-edge technology to ensure faster, smoother, and safer journeys.

It operates at a maximum speed of 110 km/h, featuring quick acceleration and deceleration for efficient travel between cities.

The Vande Metro boasts several passenger-friendly features, including fully air-conditioned cabins with ergonomically designed seats and modular interiors. These features offer superior comfort compared to other metros.

Safety is also a top priority, as the train is equipped with advanced systems such as KAVACH for collision avoidance, fire detection, and aerosol-based fire suppression.

In addition, the train also includes emergency lighting and accessible toilets for passengers with disabilities.

With 12 coaches and seating for 1,150 passengers, the train ensures a comfortable and secure ride.

Double-leaf automatic sliding doors, similar to urban metro trains, and a fully sealed flexible gangway offer a quiet, dust-free environment.

The train also features modern amenities like mobile charging sockets with Type-C and Type-A outlets, continuous LED lighting, and a talk-back system for emergencies.

Vande Metro trains are designed for efficient travel within a 150 km radius. They aim to minimize travel time between mid-distance cities. Hence they are an ideal solution for commuters.

Its modular design, ejector-based vacuum toilets, and advanced braking systems ensure a smoother ride while driving cabs at both ends eliminating turnaround time.
