Comfortable train journeys await Kashmir passengers
Indian Railways will be launching two modern trains to Kashmir in January 2025. Hence travelling through Kashmir will become more comfortable with the train journey.
These new trains promise advanced features designed to tackle the region’s harsh winters while offering passengers a cosy experience.
The first train will connect New Delhi and Srinagar directly, eliminating the need for a train change at Jammu.
Unlike Vande Bharat trains, this sleeper train will feature centralized heating to keep passengers warm.
The train will cover the Delhi-Srinagar route in just 13 hours, passing over the magnificent Chenab Bridge, which soars 359 meters above the river. However, it will not include second-class sleeper accommodations, as noted by reports.
The second train, a compact Vande Bharat with eight coaches, will operate between Katra and Baramulla.
This service will complete the 246-kilometer journey in three and a half hours, drastically reducing the 10-hour bus travel time.
The train will feature chair car seating and innovative silicon heating pads in water tanks to ensure passengers have access to hot water. Additionally, warm air circulation ducts in the toilets will enhance comfort during the trip.
Indian Railways has also introduced a pioneering feature for the loco pilots.
The front glass of the train will include a heating element to prevent freezing, ensuring visibility even in sub-zero temperatures.
This is a first-of-its-kind innovation for the country’s railway network.
These upcoming trains reflect Indian Railways’ commitment to improving passenger amenities and providing seamless travel experiences.
By introducing features like heated coaches and enhanced restroom facilities, the trains aim to make winter travel in the Kashmir Valley comfortable.
With shorter travel times and state-of-the-art amenities, these trains are expected to transform the way people travel in the region.
Whether it’s the scenic route over the Chenab Bridge or the faster commute between Katra and Baramulla, passengers can look forward to journeys that blend efficiency and comfort.
