E-passports announced under Passport Seva 2.0
The launch of Passport Seva 2.0 in India, as announced by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, marks a significant milestone in the country’s passport services.
This next-generation technology will not only enhance the safety and ease of passport checks but also pave the way for the introduction of e-passports in India.
The second phase of the Passport Seva Programme, known as PSP-Version 2.0, brings India closer to the realization of e-passports. It also eases the process of obtaining passports more accessible and efficient for Indian citizens.
Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ease of Living principle, Passport Seva 2.0 embodies the principles of ‘EASE’.
Passport Seva 2.0 aims to revolutionize customer service and streamline the passport acquisition process in India.
With the upcoming launch of e-passports later this year, it addresses security and safety concerns.
E-passports will be an upgrade from the current passports, thanks to the embedded electronic chip that stores all relevant data of the passport holder.
This advancement will significantly reduce security checks and long queues at airports.
E-passports will feature biometric verification, including fingerprint and face ID. In addition, they will have Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to prevent unauthorized data transfers from the electronic chip.
The introduction of e-passports not only promises a superior travel experience for users but also strengthens passenger security and safety, as affirmed by the Indian government.
The implementation of Passport Seva 2.0 and the subsequent launch of e-passports represents a remarkable step forward in the digitization and modernization of passport services in India.
By leveraging advanced technology, the government aims to enhance the overall efficiency, security, and convenience of passport acquisition for its citizens.
This latest initiative underscores India’s commitment to embracing technological advancements to improve public services and ensure a seamless travel experience.
With Passport Seva 2.0, India is poised to provide its citizens with an enhanced passport system that aligns with global standards while prioritizing the safety and ease of its citizens.
