Getting a passport is easier now than ever
Gone are the days when people waited for months to get a passport in India. Now, it is very easy to get a passport in the country.
Can you imagine that you can get a tatkal passport in just 24 hours? Yes, it is true, you can get it in 24 hours. Getting a passport has been made easier than ever in the country.
The Centre in Lok Sabha said that citizens can get an ordinary passport in 11 days while a tatkal passport is issued within a day.
In this regard, it stated that the government took several measures to cut down the delays in issuing passports and the corruption involved in this process.
It also said an application has been launched to enable the police verification of applicants in over 700 districts across the country.
The Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan says that India has 36 passport offices at present. Besides, there are 412 post office passport seva kendras and 93 passport seva kendras to issue passports to citizens hassle-free.
The Minister also said that private entities are not involved in operating the post office passport seva kendras.
He says the government has reduced the time to 11 days to issue a passport in normal conditions. Applicants can get a tatkal passport within a day, which is a great achievement.
The Passport Seva office says that tatkal passports that do not require police verification will be issued within one working day. The excludes the date of submission of the application.
Tatkal passports that require police verification will be issued on the third working day. Even though police verification is needed, officials can be issued it on the third day without waiting for the report.
There are different types of passports issued by the government for different people. These include ordinary passports, official passports, and diplomatic passports.
