Avail Aadhaar services at home
Aadhaar card is one of the major identity proofs in the country. Though there are many identity and residence proofs, Aadhaar is the most common and widely accepted identity proof across the country.
However, it is difficult to change details on Aadhaar cards. As a majority of people live in rental homes, they have to change address every time they shift to a new rental home.
In addition to that, due to lack of knowledge, many people do not provide accurate or proper details. Still, a majority of Aadhaar cardholders did not update their mobile numbers in their Aadhaar cards.
Now, in some states, Aadhaar cardholders must link their mobile numbers with their Aadhaar card to obtain ration given by the government. In the wake of COVID-19, several states replaced fingerprints with Aadhaar-based OTP. This OTP is sent to the registered mobile phone numbers with the Aadhaar card.
With this new rule, many people who did not register or link their mobile phone number with Aadhaar are facing troubles.
Like this, Aadhaar cardholders have to face troubles with the new rules implemented by the Centre and state governments and the changes they need to do in their Aadhaar cards.
To ease the update process, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) launched a helpline number to avail major Aadhaar services at the homes of users.
Aadhaar users can dial 1947 or 1800 300 1947 to avail various Aadhaar related services. Both these numbers are toll-free and they work round the clock.
To facilitate the Aadhaar card update process, UIDAI simplified the process. Aadhaar users can do several changes online. They can update their name, gender, date of birth, address and language online and there is no need to visit Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Aadhaar enrolment centre.
However, if the users want to link their mobile number with Aadhaar card, update biometric details or head of family or guardian details, they have to visit Aadhaar enrolment or update centre.
Using the toll-free number, users can solve their issues through the phone. They can also call regional centres to get their grievances addressed.
Enrolling mobile number helps users in many ways. Hence, Aadhaar cardholders should get their mobile numbers enrolled or linked with their Aadhaar.
