Aadhar details publicly displayed on Govt. websites

Indian government made it mandatory to link Aadhar card with numerous bodies to avail the benefits of several social service schemes from the government.

So, citizens are linking their Aadhar cards with banks, IT department, mobile service providers and several others.

Since the data is crucial, the privacy of the Aadhar card holders should be maintained by the government.

However, a shocking fact is that more than 200 websites belonging to both central and state government are displaying the data of the card holders.


The websites include several central and state government departments as well as educational institutions.

These details include names, numbers and addresses of Aadhar holders, says the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

The UIDAI noted the breach and got the data removed from those websites. However, it did not mention when the breach took place.

Furthermore, it states that the UIDAI have never made the details of Aadhar public.

This matter was revealed when the UIDAI replied to the RTI application about Aadhar details which were made public.

In its reply, the UIDAI stated that robust security is placed by using a well-designed and multi-layer approach. The security system has been constantly upgraded by it to maintain the utmost level of data security. The architectural system ensures keep the privacy of the card holders and it is being maintained from the starting stage to the end stage.

It is also said that different policies are defined and reviewed constantly. Moreover, they are updating their system for proper control and to check the data in and out from UIDAI premises especially from data centres.

Security audits are being conducted on a regular basis to make the security system further stronger and keep the privacy of data. All essential steps are being taken to keep the data safe and protect it, says an authority of the UIDAI.
