Using internet to plant trees
There could be many people out there who want to help the environment and plant a tree. However, many people don’t know how to go about it. Now if you want to plant a tree, all you have to do is log on to a website and you are pretty much done. Read on to find about more.
Sankalp Taru is a technology based NGO. It works about reforestation and saving the environment. Apurva Bhandari, the co-founder of the NGO says that there is a huge difference of respect to nature in urban and rural areas. In the city there are many concrete jungles popping up all around. However, she says that there are many people who wanted to do something for nature by planting trees – they just need guidance.
The organization is helping people all across India whether in deserts or in valleys. It has made it easy for people to plant a tree in diverse locations using just a simple website or a mobile application.
The process is simple. Any user who wants to plant a tree goes to the online website. The request from the user will be received by a rural beneficiary who is a farmer and plants the tree at the physical location. There will be a coordinator from Sankalp Taru. The coordinator provides the beneficiary with the sapling and resources to nurture the tree.
The NGO wants to improve the number of trees which causes to reduce the carbon footprint that humans leave. They also aim to help farmers with alternate sources of income like selling fruits and making non-timber forest products.
Sankalp Taru was founded in 2012. So far, the organization is responsible for four lakh medicinal and fruit-bearing trees planted to date. There are 35 people working for the NGO. They have 21,500 beneficiaries at present.
