12 year old boy powering schools in rural India | Fusion - WeRIndia

Meet this young eighth grader from USA who is providing power to remote schools in rural India. Emhyr Subramanian, a 12 year old student in USA was shocked to see the poor conditions of the schools in his native village in India. This young change maker uses a creative way using his violin to collect funds for various projects he wants to do. He also has big plans to expand his work to many other countries.

Emhyr’s desire to bring light to schools has helped many students in Kerala to have a better life. This isn’t the only project he has done. When he was just eight years old, he went door-to-door to collect funds to help rebuild schools which have been destroyed by the earthquake that occurred in Haiti.

When he was nine years old, he played violin at a farmer’s market and donated the funds to charity. He even raised funds for his school’s robotics team.

He was inspired by his grandfather’s effort to uplift villagers of Ayaloor in Kerala. He played violin and raised funds to provide uniforms and drinking cups for school children. He got the idea to install solar panels in schools after seeing his grandfather’s house which was solar powered. He already installed panels in two schools and is set to install more.
