In a significant stride towards educational reform, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is set to witness a transformation.

Around 233 existing schools will be developed in the first phase under the PM Schools for Rising India (PM Shri) scheme.

The initiative is aimed at upgrading and developing schools. It has received approval from the Union Ministry of Education, with an additional 265 schools awaiting approval for the second phase.

Recently a meeting was held on Teacher’s Day to mark a pivotal moment in the scheme’s implementation under the leadership of the Lt Governor. He emphasized that the upgraded schools would serve as beacons, providing mentorship to others in their areas.

The focus, he stated, would be on enhancing learning outcomes for every child, fostering critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity across all schools.

To ensure accessibility, the Lt Governor directed the Education Department to devise a comprehensive five-year plan, aiming to reduce the distance children need to travel to attend school.

Beyond infrastructure, he underscored the importance of enriching the curriculum.

This move aligns with the overarching goal of making education more accessible to all.

Additionally, vocational training and skill development programs are set to become integral parts of the revamped educational landscape.

The PM Shri scheme was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Teacher’s Day in 2022.

The scheme targets the upgradation and development of approximately 14,500 schools nationwide.

The centrally-sponsored initiative seeks to strengthen existing schools managed by central, state, and UT governments, turning them into exemplars aligned with the National Education Policy 2020.

The scheme’s design is ambitious, catering to diverse backgrounds, multilingual needs, and varying academic abilities of students.

Active participants in their learning process, the children are envisioned to benefit from an educational system that evolves to meet their individual needs.

As Jammu and Kashmir take decisive steps towards educational excellence, the PM Shri scheme emerges as a catalyst for change.

It promises a brighter future for the region’s students and sets the stage for a comprehensive educational overhaul.
