Movie on Manmohan Singh
A Bollywood movie about ex-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is set to be released at the end of 2017. The movie titled ‘Manmohan Singh – The Accidental Prime Minister’ is based on Sanjay Baru’s controversial book ‘The Accidental Prime Minister: the Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh’.
The film provides insight about Singh’s decade as the prime minister of India till 2014. The teaser for the film is expected to be released on August 30. It is expected that the first look of the movie might cause discomfort to many Congress bigwigs as it would be showcasing how Sonia Gandhi-led Congress allegedly denied a state funeral to former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao in the country’s capital.
According to sources, the film will be released in more than a dozen languages in India and worldwide. The makers are still looking for actors for key roles including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. A young actor was shortlisted to play the role of Manmohan Singh.
The makers are also in contact with overseas casting agencies to find a foreign actress to act as Sonia Gandhi if they cannot find one in the Indian industry. They are looking to get famous actor Manoj Bajpayee to play Sanjaya Baru in the movie.
The makers aim to show the viewers a real view of the functioning of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Sunil Bohra, the film’s producer said that this movie will be a true reflection of Mr Sanjaya Baru’s book. Bohra is known for blockbusters like Gangs of Wasseypur.
He added that they are not trying to create a sensation but to depict events as they happened in a true manner. The movie aims to show the events which changed the political spectrum of India. The original book was written by Sanjaya Baru who was Singh’s media advisor.
