DigiYatra facility to be launched at six more airports
The Ministry of Civil Aviation is set to extend the DigiYatra facility to six additional airports this month. The move is aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and streamlining airport processes.
The mobile application-based service, which is currently operational in seven airports across the country, is slated for deployment in other six airports. They are Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Kochi, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Mumbai.
The Ministry stated on August 11 in this regard. It highlighted that the phased implementation and installation of DigiYatra infrastructure will occur at these six airports, bolstering its presence nationwide.
Initially introduced on December 1, 2022, at Delhi, Varanasi, and Bengaluru airports, the DigiYatra services have progressively expanded. Following these, four more airports, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Pune, and Kolkata, welcomed the facility. With this, the total tally of DigiYatra-enabled airports to seven.
The forthcoming launch at the six additional airports will elevate the count to an impressive thirteen. It helps mark a significant stride in the integration of seamless digital services within air travel.
DigiYatra, an innovative mobile-based ID storage platform introduced by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, empowers air travellers to securely store their identification documents and travel information.
The system operates on the principles of contactless and efficient passenger movement through various airport checkpoints.
Leveraging advanced Facial Recognition Technology (FRT), passengers can experience hassle-free navigation within airports, transcending the conventional paper-based processes.
The DigiYatra facility has already been embraced by approximately 3.5 million passengers, reflecting its practical utility and user-friendliness.
Notably, the system prioritizes data security and privacy. Passenger data is encrypted and exchanged solely between the passenger and the departure airport, with no centralized storage of information.
It ensures that sensitive information remains safeguarded and under the traveller’s control.
One of the system’s notable features is the automatic purging of data from the airport’s system within 24 hours of a flight’s departure.
This efficient data management strategy further underscores the commitment to privacy and security.
With its swift expansion and positive reception, the DigiYatra facility redefines the air travel experience.
Besides, it aligns with the growing demand for digital solutions that simplify processes while maintaining stringent security standards.
