Dera Sacha Sauda gave ₹5 crore to incite violence
After Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was arrested and tried for his rape of two women, his religious sect, the Dera Sacha Sauda, were outraged.
After Ram Rahim was sentenced to twenty years in prison, thousands of members of the Dera Sacha Sauda broke out in violent protest, killing and injuring several people.
Currently, a special investigation team is investigating the violence case, and had previously reported the involvement of members Atitya Insaan, Honeypreet Insaan and Surender Dhiman Insaan.
Now, new reports have come out about the amount of effort that was put into this violent outbreak. The investigation team revealed that at least ₹50,000,000 was spent to fuel this violence.
Several people are believed to have contributed to this amount, but the majority of it is suspected to have come from Chamkur Singh, the head of the Panchkula branch of the Dera Sacha Sauda.
After the registration of the sedition case against him, Chamkur and his family promptly went missing. The investigation team is searching for him in all of his possible hiding locations, and they will release more details after they arrest him.
However, other people also donated money to the violent protest, including a suspected horticulture scientist.
The money collected for the violence was sent out around Punjab, including around Panchkula. The sect members were also told that they would get compensation for any death that would occur in the protest.
All members who agreed to participate converged in Panchkula, where Gurmeet would be tried for his rape cases. Chamkur, Dhiman, and other prominent sect members in the area arranged a community kitchen for them while they were there.
Sources also report that some people behind the violence were on police radar. The special investigation team is continuing to dive deeper into this case, and all of the people involved in it will hopefully be arrested soon.
