CBI arrests two in NEET-UG paper leak case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the NEET-UG paper leak case from Bihar’s Economic Offences Unit (EOU) and arrested two individuals from Patna.

These arrests are linked to the alleged leak that occurred on May 4, a day before the NEET-UG exam.

Manish Prakash and Ashutosh Kumar were arrested for allegedly arranging accommodation for the examinees involved.

The investigation has revealed that the suspects memorized the solved paper on May 4. Four examinees are among the 13 accused in the case, with five more arrests following.

The CBI is investigating as many as six cases related to the NEET paper leak, out of them one case is from Bihar.

The CBI is also tracking the prime accused, Sanjiv Mukhiya, who is believed to have fled to Nepal.

Another key suspect, Sikandar Yadavendu, has been arrested by Bihar police. Yadavendu allegedly introduced the examinees to Nitish Kumar and Amit Anand.

On Sunday, the National Testing Agency (NTA) sent show-cause notices to 17 candidates in Patna.

The notice includes threatening debarment based on a report from Bihar Police’s Economic Offences Unit.

Following the CBI’s involvement, the Bihar and Gujarat governments transferred their local NEET-UG paper leak cases to the central agency.

The Education Ministry announced it would form an expert committee to review the NTA’s functioning and suggest exam reforms.

The expert committee is headed by former ISRO chairman K Radhakrishnan. Additionally, Subodh Kumar Singh was removed as NTA chief on Saturday.

The CBI’s involvement marks a significant step in addressing the NEET-UG paper leak scandal.

The investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the network involved in this malpractice and ensure justice for the affected candidates.

This case highlights the need for stringent measures to maintain the integrity of national examinations.

The Education Ministry’s actions, including the formation of the expert committee, underscore their commitment to preventing such incidents in the future.
