Nagababu Jannu: A Journey Beyond Barriers

When Nagababu Jannu was born blind in Andhra Pradesh, many people around his family assumed his future would be limited.

His mother, however, refused to accept those predictions.

She believed her son could live independently and with dignity. That belief became the foundation of his remarkable journey.

Nagababu grew up in a financially struggling family in Vuyyuru. His father worked as a cycle mechanic, while his mother stitched cloth bags to support the household.

Despite the difficulties, she ensured that Nagababu received an education.

His life changed when he discovered computers as a school student. For the first time, technology showed him possibilities beyond the limitations others had placed on him. He decided to pursue engineering, but the path was far from easy.

After Class 10, Nagababu faced rejection while seeking admission to a polytechnic course. Officials questioned whether a blind student could pursue engineering.

Instead of accepting the decision, he challenged it. He approached the Commissioner of Technical Education and argued for his right to study.

The struggle later reached the High Court. Nagababu also demonstrated how he could understand engineering concepts through touch and technology.

Eventually, the government issued an order in 2005 allowing him to pursue engineering. The decision also created opportunities for other blind students.

Nagababu went on to complete a Polytechnic diploma and a BTech in Computer Science. He later began his professional career at Wipro Technologies in 2009.

Over the years, his skills helped him progress through the technology industry.

Today, he serves as a Vice President and Lead Software Engineer at a global financial institution. He works with screen-reading technologies, proving that accessibility tools can help professionals build successful careers.

His journey has not been free of setbacks. He has faced discrimination, financial hardship and health challenges.

Yet he continued working, learning and contributing. His memoir, The Unseen Path, reflects that determination.

Nagababu’s story is ultimately about refusing to let circumstances define ambition. His message is simple: believe in your abilities, keep working through setbacks and never surrender your courage.

His journey shows that barriers can become turning points when determination refuses to stop.
