Delhi Police investigate hoax bomb threat at over 150 schools

The Delhi Police have taken swift action in response to a hoax bomb threat that targeted more than 150 schools across the National Capital Region (NCR).

This alarming incident prompted the involvement of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to engage with Interpol for global assistance.

The threatening email, received by numerous schools, led to widespread panic and evacuation on Wednesday.

It was reported that the email originated from a mail.ru server, falsely claiming that explosives were planted on school premises.

Parents, in a state of distress, hurried to ensure the safety of their children. Fortunately, the claims were later debunked as a hoax after thorough searches revealed no actual threat.

To trace the origins of this unsettling communication, Delhi Police are meticulously investigating the IP address used to send the email.

They suspect the email was sent using VPN services and the dark web, complicating efforts to pinpoint the exact source.

The dark web is known for its encrypted content, which allows users to mask their identity and location, adding a layer of complexity to the investigation.

Officials suggest that the hoax might be part of a “deeper conspiracy” possibly orchestrated by a terror group, specifically an ISIS module, during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

This suspicion has intensified the scrutiny under which this case is being examined.

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has registered a case under various legal provisions relating to conspiracy and issuing threats.

A dedicated team has been formed to lead the investigation, underscoring the seriousness with which this matter is being treated.

The CBI’s involvement, facilitated through its role as Interpol India, ensures that the probe has a global reach.

Information related to the case is expected to be shared with member law enforcement agencies worldwide, aiding in the broader effort to address and mitigate the implications of such threats on international security.

This incident highlights the challenges of cybersecurity and the potential for misuse of digital platforms. Besides, it also emphasizes the importance of rapid and coordinated responses by law enforcement to ensure public safety.
