Hoax bomb threats stir tension across Delhi hospitals & IGI Airport

Delhi-NCR has been on high alert after a series of bomb threat emails targeted multiple hospitals and the Indira Gandhi International Airport, causing widespread concern.

These threats, arriving just days following a similar scare involving over 150 schools in the region, were later confirmed as hoaxes.

The threats specifically affected eight prominent city hospitals including Burari Hospital, Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and others.

Additionally, Terminal 3 of the IGI Airport also received a threatening email.

Upon receiving the hoax at approximately 3:30 PM on May 12, authorities at GTB Hospital promptly alerted local police.

The police immediately called the Bomb Disposal Squad for inspections. After thorough inspections by the Bomb Disposal Squad, no suspicious items were found at any of the locations.

In response to the threats, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has taken immediate measures to reinforce security, particularly at Hindu Rao Hospital, which was among those targeted.

The hospital’s administration was alerted by an email claiming the presence of a bomb, leading to a full inspection by the Dog Squad and bomb detection teams, which ultimately found no threat.

Moreover, the MCD issued statements detailing enhanced security protocols. As part of these protocols, some of the openings were closed, and security checks increased.

In addition, the hospital is put on high alert for QRT activation. Also, operation theatre, CCU, emergency etc., have been equipped for any adverse event. Furthermore, hospital staff have been directed to be more vigilant.

The MCD emphasized the importance of vigilance among hospital staff. Police investigations are ongoing, focusing on the origin and credibility of the email threats.

A screenshot of the suspicious email has circulated widely on social media, adding to the urgency of the investigation.

Meanwhile, security remains tightened across all affected sites to prevent any potential incidents and to reassure the public of their safety.
