Bomb threats at the Golden Temple spark security | Fusion - WeRIndia

India’s religious landmarks have often faced threats, raising concerns about safety and security.

The Golden Temple in Amritsar, one of the holiest sites for Sikhs, has received two bomb threat emails in just 24 hours.

The first email warned of a bomb in the langar hall, where free meals are served to thousands daily.

Just a day later, another email threatened to plant RDX explosives inside the shrine, also known as Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), responsible for managing the shrine, took immediate action.

They filed a fresh police complaint and wrote to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, urging swift intervention.

The SGPC stated in their letter that they had received another email, this time warning about a conspiracy to place RDX at Sri Harmandir Sahib, and they requested urgent attention to the serious matter.

Following this, the Punjab Police launched an investigation. Cyber experts are now tracing the origin of the threatening emails.

Authorities have increased security around the Golden Temple, and all departments are on high alert.

SGPC member Pratap Singh urged people to remain calm. He said the threats were attempts to create panic and disturb communal peace.

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed that a case had been registered. He assured the public that necessary steps were being taken to ensure safety.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla visited the shrine to assess the situation.

On social media, he wrote that it was not just a threat to a religious site, but an attack on peace, faith, and humanity.

He emphasised the need for robust security and strong intelligence systems.

Aujla reminded officials that lakhs of people, including tourists, visit the Golden Temple daily. Therefore, security cannot be compromised.

The authorities continue to investigate while maintaining strict vigilance. The cost of neglecting such threats could be devastating, both in lives and national faith.
