Delhi & Hyderabad airports introduce Self-Baggage Drop facility

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has recently introduced a Self-Baggage Drop (SBD) system at Terminal-3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport, aiming to enhance efficiency and reduce waiting times for passengers.

This self-service facility enables travelers to independently check their luggage without requiring assistance from airport staff, streamlining the baggage drop-off process.

The implementation of this system is expected to save passengers approximately 15-20 minutes.

Passengers utilizing the Self-Baggage Drop service will first obtain their boarding passes and baggage tags at the Self Check-in Kiosk, as stated by DIAL.

After that, they can proceed to the designated baggage drop area. There they place their luggage onto the conveyor belt after scanning their boarding passes.

Hyderabad airport has also introduced a similar self-baggage drop facility near entry gate number-9, intending to enhance efficiency and seamless travel for passengers.

To utilize the Self-Baggage Drop service, passengers need to follow a few simple steps:

  • First, they have to generate their boarding passes and baggage tags at the Self Check-In kiosk and proceed to the SBD facility.
  • Next, they will scan their boarding passes. Finally, they will place their luggage onto the designated belt.

After finishing these steps, the baggage will be automatically transferred to the airport’s sorting area and eventually loaded onto the aircraft.

The terminal at Delhi airport is equipped with a total of 14 self-baggage drop machines, of which 12 are fully automated, and two are hybrid machines.

Initially, each machine had a weight limit of 120 kilograms. The Self-Baggage Drop facility is currently available for domestic passengers. International travellers can also utilize this service after obtaining the necessary approval from the authorities.

Currently, Indigo passengers can make use of the self-baggage drop facility. Also, other airlines, such as Vistara, Air India, British Airways, Air France, and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, are expected to allow their passengers to use this service soon.

By introducing the Self-Baggage Drop system, Delhi International Airport and Hyderabad International Airport aim to improve operational efficiency.

Besides, the facility also reduces passenger waiting times and enhances the overall travel experience.

These self-service facilities provide passengers with a convenient and streamlined approach to check their luggage independently, marking a positive step towards a more efficient airport experience.
