‘Track me’ facility launched by Delhi police | Fusion - WeRIndia

Delhi Police are taking another step to improve security of women. They are about to launch a new facility called ‘track me’ to the existing SOS application called HIMMAT to help women and especially those travelling in the late hours.

Using this facility, the user is given three time slots to choose from and they will get GPS tracking in the selected time period, stated an official in Delhi Police’s Operations wing.

If the commuter doesn’t reach their destination in the time slot selected, then they have the option to re select and continue the tracking. If the user does not reselect, then the process of tracking by the police control room shall be stopped automatically.

The previously released HIMMAT application has been linked to a GPS tracking system. It will locate the origin of the SOS alert.

The official stated that with the new feature, the police control room can easily track the person in trouble even if their position keeps changing. Currently, the facility has been developed and put on trial mode.

So far, there are around eight officials in the operations department using it. In this trial mode, there are three time slots available: 10 minutes, 15 minutes and 30 minutes. Based on the shortfalls found in the trial mode, the facility will see more updates with changes. The trial phase is expected to continue for at least a month before the ‘track me’ feature is launched stated Special Commissioner of Police (Operations) Sundari Nanda.

He added that the facility has been developed with the purpose of providing security to working women who have odd shift and women who are travelling from airports, railway stations and bus terminals in late hours. The SOS alert would reach the police control in case of emergency and it will also go to the pre-selected group in HIMMAT.
