14-year-old Pune boy makes sanitizer kit for vegetables

Washing vegetables and fruits before storing them in a refrigerator became normal now. However, you cannot wash vegetables like onions except you use them immediately, or else, they spoil. Even many vegetables will damage if they are not dried after washing.

Moreover, many people use soap or alcohol solutions to clean vegetables due to lack of awareness. It is not good for your health.

In this scenario, alternative ways are sought. Some researchers see UV-C rays as an effective alternative to protect against COVID-19.

This 14-year-old boy from Pune designed a sanitizer kit for vegetables. Aditya Pachpande, a class IX student of Indus International School, developed ‘Suraksha Kit’ to protect against COVID-19. This kit uses UV-C rays as a shield to protect from the novel coronavirus. He patented his design.

Aditya received a letter from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Institute for his sanitizer box. His box is recommended for UV-C sterilization purpose.

Inspired by Elon Musk, the chief designer of SpaceX, Aditya wants to achieve many things in his life.

Aditya has been distributing his sanitizer box in vegetable markets in Dadar, Mumbai. He wants to distribute many more such boxes to the poor and underprivileged people in society.

He said that sanitization is one of the most vital things now, hence he developed the kit.

The idea came to his mind during the lockdown. When he was thinking about how to sterilize vegetables and researched on this, he found the usage of UVC rays to sanitize vegetables as they kill viruses and bacteria effectively.

He says that neither soaps nor alcohol-based sanitizers are good to be used on vegetables. Hence, he designed the Suraksha sanitizer kit for sanitizing vegetables and fruits.

His UVC sanitizer box effectively sterilizes the vegetables.
