Delhi government to impose lockdown again
As new COVID-19 cases are increasing in the national capital, the Delhi government is mulling to implement shutdown once again.
Considering the spike in the number of coronavirus cases, the Arvind Kejriwal-led government wants to send a proposal to the central government seeking permission for imposing lockdown across the region.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal yesterday said that the number of COVID-19 cases has been rising over the past few days. Hence, the government is planning to implement a shutdown for a few days if required.
Despite the appeals of the government, the gatherings of people in public places have not decreased. Moreover, due to the festival season, several people are gathering for shopping and buying other essential things for festivals.
Besides, many people are not following the norms prescribed by the government. As a result, these markets are becoming COVID-19 hotspots. Even though the Delhi government and the central government are trying to control the situation in the city to their best, they cannot control completely.
To control the spread of the virus, the government wants to shut down the markets for some time. If markets are open, the government finds it difficult to control people gatherings.
In this context, the Delhi government decided to send a fresh proposal to the Centre seeking permission to impose lockdown again if needed.
Kejriwal also said that the government and agencies doubled their efforts to control COVID-19 cases. However, unless people take precautions and follow the norms, cases cannot be controlled.
Considering the increasing COVID-19 cases in the national capital, the Delhi government decreased the permissible attendees for wedding events to 50. Earlier, the government allowed 200 people to attend the gatherings according to the guidelines of the central government.
The government’s decision has been sent to the approval of L-G Anil Baijal. In addition to the number of COVID-19 cases, Delhi is witnessing more number of fatalities in the last few days.
