First driver-less train in India

The country has witnessed the first driver-less train in Delhi’s Metro. The train is equipped with additional features in order to make the journey more comfortable for the passengers. The train has six coaches which can carry over 2,280 passengers at a time.

The first driver-less train of the Delhi Metro was received from Korea on June 4th. The six coach train is completely equipped with advanced features and is set to run on sections of Phase III of the network and is planned to be operational by the end of next year.

The train reached India by ferrying it to Gujarat’s Mundhra port and was then carried on specially made trailers by road to Delhi. It was manufactured in Changwan, South Korea. They have several upgrades which are technological and eco-friendly. They also have additional features which help in improving commuters’ comfort and experience of travelling through Metro. The trains have a maximum speed of 95 kmph and have an operational speed of 85 kmph.

These trains are much more energy efficient than previous trains as they have better regeneration of energy during braking and energy efficient sub-systems like LED lighting and air conditioning. By the end of the year, a total of 20 such driver less trains will be manufactured in Changwan.
