UNESCO announces that India's 'out of school' children reduced by 90 percent

In what is definitely great news, UNESCO global education report has shown that India has reduced its ‘out of school’ children by more than 90 percent. India has achieved “universal primary education” according to UNESCO.

The report was released by HRD Minister Smriti Irani. It has stated that India is the only country in South and West Asia to have an equal ratio of girls to boys in both primary and secondary education.

Globally 47 percent of the countries have achieved universal pre-primary enrolment and there are eight percent of countries including India which are close to achieving it, stated the Education for All 2000-2015 report. The report, though, called upon the international community to seek out, in partnership with countries, the means to bridge the USD 22 billion annual monetary gap for quality pre-primary and basic education for all by 2030.

Addressing the meet, Irani said the initiatives to improve the enrolment level and “a new paradigm of education that fosters knowledge, analytical skills, vertical reasoning and the ability to imagine beyond the given is being adopted”. She further added that this is being done as part of the PM’s vision of making education a pillar in building the character of nation.
