Railways orders ‘Made in India’ machines for safety
M. K. Gupta, an Engineering Member of the Railway Board, has just inaugurated and flagged off the first of the 09-3X Dynamic Tamping Express machines.
These machines will be an incredibly efficient part of the Indian Railways. They feature imported components.
They will help with improved mechanized track maintenance.
They can carry out several functions, such as correcting the track to required geometry, tamping three sleepers at the same time, and vibrating and compacting the loose stone ballast after tamping.
Therefore, the 09-3X Dynamic Tamping Express machines can take over several different operations, such as tamping, post-tamping parameters, stabilizing, and manual interface.
Earlier, all of these operations were done by three separate machines.
From here on out, the 09-3X Dynamic Tamping Express machine will be able to do all of these operations.
Recently, M. K. Gupta inaugurated the first of these machines at Faridabad. In the next six months, seven of the 09-3X Dynamic Tamping Express machines will be rolled out.
These machines will expand the existing fleet, which consists of 874 track maintenance machines.
This fleet has been deployed over high-density routes. Although these machines have cost the Railways quite a bit of money, they will save them much more on expenses in the long run.
Each of the 09-3X Dynamic Tamping Express machines costs about ₹27 crore. The Railways are planning to introduce 42 more of them into their maintenance fleet.
In the long run, this will help with lowering operating costs and improving safety and reliability. There will also be no more need for manual measurement of track quality.
The introduction of the 09-3X Dynamic Tamping Express machines is part of the plan of the Railway Ministry to completely mechanize the maintenance, monitoring, relaying, and inspection of tracks by 2024.
The machines have also been introduced under the “Make in India” scheme. They will certainly allow the Railways to become much more efficient and reliable with their train safety.
