Increase in number of people taking up yoga
According to a survey conducted by ASSOCHAM India, the number of people who are practicing yoga in the country has increased by 30 percent. According to the report of Survey, the trend has been increasing as many people are being inspired by celebrities and media attention.
The survey was based on results from 10 cities of India. Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai were 10 cities surveyed.
The survey asked 100 gym trainers and fitness professionals and around 1,000 people working out in gymnasiums to get good results. As the second International Yoga Day is here, the survey was finished in time to announce these results.
Many gym trainers said there has been an increase in number of female clients by 50 per cent after they started conducting yoga sessions. There has been observed increase of yoga practitioners by around 25-30 per cent during the last one year.
25 per cent gym regulars were found to have switched to yoga because of its benefits. Many of the new practitioners said that yoga helped them fight many problems like addiction and lower back pain to diabetes and aging. Many found that since yoga can be practiced in home or even office, it was the right choice for them.
The government’s efforts to increase yoga practitioners has proven to be working as more and more people are switching to yoga. The number of yoga studios has also seen a rise in the past one year. The International Yoga Day certainly proved to be helpful in this increase. The number of women practicing yoga has also improved.
The government wants to do even more to encourage Yoga. On World Yoga Day, June 21, the 104 medical helpline will be open for citizens who have any questions on medical yoga and various asanas, mediation, breathing exercises etc.
