Aviation Ministry proposes Digi Yatra
In order to facilitate, hassle-free air travel, the civil aviation ministry proposes ‘Digi Yatra’.
Union Minister Suresh Prabhu said the government is mulling to roll out digi yatra facility which will start in the next two months.
The digi yatra as the name suggests uses a digital system and is aimed to minimize the paperwork for flight travel starting from airport entry to board flights in the country.
The system uses Aadhaar card number and mobile phone of a passenger.
The civil aviation ministry proposed everything such as ticket booking, airport entry and boarding pass security check digitally under the system.
Under the new proposed system, a passenger’s biometrics like iris and facial features are captured when he enters the airport and thus he can get through flight travel without worrying about security.
While implementing the system the government will make sure the privacy guidelines of the Supreme Court are not violated.
Digi Yatra is mainly based on the identity of a person. A person can travel if he establishes his identity.
On the other hand, those who do not want to reveal their identity can go through the normal mode of travel.
In this way, the system is optional for passengers and the government does not violate the guidelines of the Apex Court.
Before rolling out the actual facility, the government is conducting some trials which have been successful.
The government also wants to bring some changes in the security.
The government’s initiative, comprehensive and integrated plan for 2035 Aviation will be ready by the end of this year.
Under this plan, the government wants to set up infrastructure to manufacture planes and drones by using technology.
The Minister said, the government is going to hold a unique aviation event in December in which all the airline industry stakeholders are expected to be participated.
