Sri Lanka is the largest importer of pickles from India, with over 30 per cent of the market share. In addition, Oman, Kuwait, Belgium, and Saudi Arabia also import pickles from the country. India exports pickles majorly to these countries. They contribute to 62 per cent of pickle exports.


South Africa, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Qatar, and Spain are the next five countries that import pickles from India.

  • An exporter needs an Importer Exporter Code (IEC) to export products. IEC is a 10-digit number. It is issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade. It has lifetime validity, and there is no need to renew.
  • To apply for an IEC, you must register your company with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Then apply for IEC and find a target market.
  • Every food business operator in India must have a license from FSSAI. So, register with FSSAI and get the license.
  • Get the licence from the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
  • Then identify genuine vendors and buyers.
  • To export your products, you need a good shipping company. It is essential to deliver them through proper shipment. So partner with a credible shipping company that ships the products safely and securely.

The following documents are required to start pickles exporting:

  • Company or business incorporation certificate
  • Address proof of your business
  • Identity proofs of directors of the company
  • Also, their address proofs are needed
  • FSSAI Registration
  • APEDA license
  • PAN card
  • GST registration certificate
  • Foreign currency bank account for exports
