DRDO launches Innovation Contest – Dare to Dream 2.0
To commemorate former President and renowned scientist Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) launched its innovation contest ‘Dare to Dream 2.0’ on his 5th death anniversary.
The contest is open for individuals and startups to promote indigenous innovations in defence and aerospace technologies in the country.
After the call of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat‘ given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several individuals and institutions are focusing on this. This contest is one among them.
Indian citizens above 18 years of age and startups controlled by Indians and recognized by DPIIT are eligible to participate in the contest.
The contest will end on October 15, 2020, the birthday of late President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Individual winners will be awarded ₹5 lakhs and startups will be awarded ₹10 lakhs. The second and third prize will be ₹4 lakhs and ₹3 lakhs for individuals and 8 lakhs and ₹6 lakhs for startups.
There are 11 areas of challenge. Materials & Technologies for fire suppression and protection, eco-friendly explosive waste management etc. are some among the others.
Contestants will have to submit their applications online. There are two categories, one for individuals and another for startups. However, if an individual has a startup, he can apply in both categories.
However, one cannot apply for more than five areas of challenge. They should submit their write-ups in Hindi or English with a description of 200 words for each challenge they have chosen.
Detailed description can be submitted in PDF format of less than 2 MB. Entries will be judged by a two-stage process. Domain Expert Committee screens all applications at first. Then, the Independent Expert Committee will shortlist them and give rankings. Based on that, prizes will be awarded to the winners.
