To help develop fisheries and improve marketplace and information for farmers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to launch e-Gopala app and  Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) today digitally.

PMMSY focuses on sustainable development of the fisheries sector in India. The estimated investment is ₹20,050 crores for five years starting from FY 2020-21 to FY 2024-25 as part of the AtmaNirbhar Bharat Package. This budget is meant for all states and Union Territories.

Out of this, ₹12,340 crores is allocated in the Marine, Inland fisheries and Aquaculture sectors towards beneficiary-oriented activities, and ₹7,710 crores is invested in fisheries infrastructure.

PMMSY also aims to improve fish production in the country in the next five years. It aimed to double the income of fishermen and fish farmers with estimated export earnings of ₹1,00,000 crores by 2024-25.

It also wants to reduce post-harvest losses to 10 percent from 25 per cent. It is estimated that around 55 lakh people directly or indirectly will benefit from it due to increasing job opportunities in the fisheries sector and allied activities.

A fish brood bank will be established at Sitamarhi and an aquatic disease referral laboratory will be set up at Kishanganj. PM Modi announces these establishments today. PMMSY provides support for both facilities which will help improve the production of quality fish. They also provide affordable fish seed to the farmers. Besides, they address the issues of water and soil testing and disease diagnosis.

Th e-Gopala App is a comprehensive portal for farmers to use directly. At present, there is no digital marketplace for farmers to buy and sell all forms of disease-free germplasm.

Th e-Gopala App offers such support. Besides, farmers can get guidance on the availability of quality breeding services, guidance on animal nutrition and treatment of animals for various diseases.
