Even from Ancient times, India’s science has been innovative and revolutionary.

Many discoveries were made by Indian scientists. In the present era however, they do not get the recognition they deserve and are severely underrated.

These scientists made discoveries and revolutionary findings but the recognition they get is miniscule compared to their achievements.

 


Prafulla Chandra Ray

Prafulla Chandra Ray is a Bengal chemist. He made chemistry popular in India. He is the founder of Bengal Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals.

His work on nitrites of mercury was the basis to many incredible studies of metals and nitrites by many.

Salim Ali

Salim is known as the “birdman of India”, a title he received for his work in ornithology (study of birds).

His book “The Book of Indian Birds” is considered the epitome of study on Indian birds. However, his book ‘Handbook of the Birds of India and Pakistan’ is considered his best.

Without Homi Jehangir Bhabha, India’s atomic energy wouldn’t be where it is now. He is called the father of India’s Nuclear power program.

His vision was always on the future with the three stage nuclear power program which uses thorium for power instead of uranium.

Satyendra Nath Bose

Satyendra Nath Bose is a mathematician and physician who stood at the levels of Albert Einstein. He worked with Einstein himself in the field of electromagnetic radiation. He deserves most recognition for forming the concept of ‘Boson’, a particle in quantum physics which is named after him.

Meghnad Saha is a genius Astrophysicist.

He stated the Saha ionization about the relation of ionization state of an element to temperature and pressure.

Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis

Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis is a great statistician.

Almost every statistics student knows of his name.

However, most don’t know of him.

He is the founder of Indian Statistical Institute (ISI).

It is responsible for finding many important Indian statistics.
