Two friends collect hair for children with cancer
These two friends are working hard to bring smiles to children suffering from cancer. Niharika Jadeja and Amatullah Vahanwala are two friends with a unique idea to help these children.
There are many children in India suffering with cancer. Most children worry about the problem of losing their hair. They feel “unattractive” or that they will be made fun of in school. The two friends wanted to bring hope to children who are worried.
Niharika says that she and her friend wanted to do something new to help these children with their fear. They say that even though they cannot perform miracles to cure cancer, they can bring smile to the faces of children. That is the thought which led to the start of Hair for Happiness.
Hair for Happiness is a hair donation initiative. It encourages people to donate their hair to cancer patients. Niharika and Amatullah collect the hair donations and sends it to Little Princess Trust in the UK. The trust provides free wigs to children suffering from cancer across the UK and Ireland.
The donors can do their donation during one of the donation drives of Hair for Happiness or they can use the provided kits called “Kits to Cut” to do so privately. The kits consist of a Ziploc bag, a certificate, a sheet of instructions, a few rubber bands, and clips.
The idea is simple. Those who are interested in donating simply braid their hair as per the instructions and place it in the Ziploc bag. The bag is then mailed to the organization.
The two girls conducted several donation drives. They even partnered with two salons – Fringes in Koramangala (Bengaluru) and All About U salon (Mumbai). In order to conduct their drives, they raise their own money using cookie sales, donation drives and individual donations.
