Neelakanta Bhanu Prakash - World’s Fastest Human Calculator

Neelakanta Bhanu Prakash from Hyderabad won the Mental Calculation World Championship at Mind Sports Olympiad held in London. He is the first Indian to win this Championship.

This 20-year-old is a Delhi University student. He has a degree in Mathematics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi.

He calculates quicker than a calculator. Bhanu has been interested in Mathematics since his childhood. With his passion for the subject, he set several records.

He won the title, World’s Fastest Human Calculator, by breaking the records of prominent people like Scott Flansburg and Shakuntala Devi. He holds four world records and 50 Limca book records for being the fastest human calculator in the world.


The Mind Sports Olympiad is a multidisciplinary annual competition. The competition has numerous games to test mental skills.

It is a prestigious international competition for mind sports and mental skills.

The competition was inaugurated in 1997. It takes place each year in England. This year, the competition was held virtually on August 15 due to coronavirus pandemic.

30 individuals from 14 countries like UK, Germany, France, UAE, Greece, and Lebanon participated in the competition. Participants of different age groups up to 57 years old took part in the competition.

Bhanu was 65 points ahead of a Lebanese competitor and won the gold medal.

He believes numeracy is important for the development of any country. He wants to remove the fear of Mathematics in students.

For this, he wishes to start mathematics initiative, Vision Math. Generally, many students have a fear of Maths. Vision Math aimed to eliminate the fear in students and instil a love for the subject. Bhanu hopes PM Modi to take the lead on the initiative.

Several people congratulated Bhanu on social media for winning the gold medal in this prestigious competition.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu appreciated him and said that he made the country proud.
