Mother’s quest for a gluten-free solution inspires Geggle venture
Gurpreet Kaur, a devoted mother from Dehradun, embarked on a mission to find a gluten-free solution for her daughter’s celiac disease.
The journey began with her daughter’s mysteriously untouched lunchbox and a persistent feeling that something was amiss.
Every day, Gurpreet lovingly prepared her youngest daughter’s lunch, only to find it uneaten.
Her daughter, pale and tired, complained of stomach problems and showed stunted growth compared to her peers.
In 2008, a family doctor diagnosed her with celiac disease, an autoimmune condition triggered by gluten consumption.
Unfamiliar with celiac disease and gluten allergies, Gurpreet was determined to find a solution.
She learned that a strict gluten-free diet was the only treatment for this incurable allergy.
However, finding gluten-free alternatives that her daughter enjoyed proved challenging.
Gurpreet delved into extensive research, attending seminars, consulting with nutritionists, and even experimenting with various ingredients.
Market products often fell short in terms of taste and safety, as some concealed wheat in unsuspecting places.
Driven by her daughter’s need for a gluten-free diet, Gurpreet founded Geggle, a company specializing in gluten-free, millet-based flours, cookies, cakes, snacks etc.
To ensure the quality and safety of these products, she purchased a small milling machine for home use.
In 2020, Gurpreet’s journey took an exciting turn when she discovered the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai.
BARC had developed gluten-free chapati flour made from millets like jowar, bajra, chickpea, and psyllium husk.
This discovery delighted her daughter, who finally had a soft, nourishing alternative to wheat chapatis.
Gurpreet entered a deal with BARC to mass-produce gluten-free chapati flour, and Geggle was officially established in September 2022.
Since then, the company has expanded its offerings to include a wide range of gluten-free products, serving over 250 individuals. The startup receives 200 monthly orders from various cities.
Customers praise Geggle’s delicate chapatis and the ease of preparation. The relief of finding gluten-free cakes, pizzas, samosas, and more has been a game-changer for parents and children with dietary restrictions.
Gurpreet’s journey from a concerned mother to the founder of Geggle has not only transformed her daughter’s life but also brought joy to countless families seeking gluten-free alternatives.
Her dedication to providing safe, delicious options has earned her the gratitude of parents and the admiration of all who appreciate her efforts.
