Abha Singhal’s remarkable journey from adversity to entrepreneurship serves as a powerful testament to determination and innovative thinking. Her story is a testament to the transformative power of unwavering ambition.

Abha’s early life was marked by significant challenges. At the tender age of 12, she endured the painful experience of her parents’ divorce, resulting in a childhood spent in hostels and boarding schools instead of a nurturing home environment.

Financial struggles loomed large, forcing Abha to set out on her own with meagre possessions, seeking refuge in a friend’s rented apartment and making do with limited resources. Yet, she refused to be defined by these adversities.

Abha’s exceptional academic prowess paved the way for a partial scholarship, enabling her to pursue an MBA in London.


While navigating the complexities of part-time work and academics abroad, she stumbled upon a passion for khichdi, a simple yet nutritious Indian dish.

What fascinated her was not only the dish’s simplicity but also its potential for a multitude of delectable variations.

Upon returning to India, fate took an unexpected turn. A chance meeting with an advertising director propelled her into the world of modeling. Abha graced advertisements for renowned brands such as Cadbury, Kalyan Jewellers etc.

However, after three years in the glamour of modeling, she felt the transient nature of the profession.

The birth of Khichdi Express came about through a casual conversation with a close friend.

Ignoring the naysayers, she embarked on this journey in 2019, launching Khichdi Express in Hyderabad.

With a modest investment of ₹3 lakhs and a team of two, her venture took flight. Abha’s vision extended beyond serving khichdi alone.

Her outlets delighted patrons with pakodas and other local delicacies. Embracing online platforms like Swiggy and Zomato, her innovative khichdi flavours reached a broader audience.

In the trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the world was grappling with chaos, Khichdi Express emerged as a symbol of hope by distributing free meals to those in need.

In just four years, Abha transformed her startup into a thriving ₹50 crore business, with aspirations of doubling its reach.

Her outlets have now proliferated across various cities, offering an array of diverse khichdi flavours. Abha aims to elevate Khichdi Express into a global brand like McDonald’s.
