Electric vehicle startups

It is the era of electric vehicles due to environmental issues. Several automobile manufacturers are designing electric vehicles. Even the government encourages entrepreneurs who manufacture these vehicles.

Some big companies like Mahindra Electric stepped forward to work with the government for establishing around 2,636 electric charging stations under the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacture of Electric Vehicles) II scheme.

Indian government focuses on encouraging electric vehicles and is aimed to sell only electric vehicles by 2030 or at least they should comprise a major portion of vehicles on road.

The sale of electric vehicles has been growing for the last two years in the country. While around 350,000 units were sold in FY18, 750,000 units were sold in FY19.


In this context, it is good to know about some electric vehicle startups.

Here is a list of some such startups:

Ather Energy was founded by IIT Madras graduates who launched two electric scooters the 340 and 450 along with the AtherGrid, an electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Yulu, a Bangalore-based electric bike-sharing platform was founded to address traffic-related issues. The startup is aimed to build a strong electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. It also wants to fast-track refining its electric scooter, Yulu Miracle.

Ultraviolette is another Bengaluru-based startup. Its first product the F77 was launched in November 2019. The motorcycle can accelerate from standstill to 60 kmph in 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 140 kmph. The bike has a range of around 150 km.

BattRE is a Jaipur based startup. It was founded by Nishchal Chaudhary, a former Airtel executive with an aim to provide groundbreaking solutions to handle pollution-related issues including noise pollution and carbon footprints. BattRE-One, the first product of the startup boasted to have keyless ignition, anti-theft alarm, USB charger and connected instrumentation.
