Bunko Junko – A Sustainable Clothing Brand
To create fashionable products from textile waste, Bunko Junko emerged. Bhavini Parikh is the founder of this Mumbai startup.
Bunko Junko is a sustainable clothing brand that aims to upcycle textile waste into fashion products.
Being a multi-tasker, Bhavini is skilful in doing many tasks. She has a toy library. Also, she hosted cookery and craft classes on a television channel. Besides, she explores ways to improve her creativity.
While working with women socio-economically challenged groups, Bhavini found certain lapses in the textile industry.
She established her own brand, BN Fashion along with her daughter and friend. She used to make garments for big brands under this brand. At that time, she observed that most of the fabric is wasted during production, which ends in landfills. It made her thoughts strong to create a sustainable fashion brand.
She launched Bunko Junko to sell upcycled garments. It mainly focuses on women empowerment. Around 3,000 women from villages stitch for the startup. These include dresses, jackets, kurtas, laptop bags, clutches, rugs etc. Besides, they make earrings and bangles.
Bhavini uses WhatsApp to send pictures of apparel to interested customers. She sends the products to customers after getting their approval. The conversation with customers serves as proof of approval. It also helps make changes to the clothing as per their feedback and requirements. It also helps to fasten their operations in the shop.
She also uses WhatsApp for conducting exhibitions and sales. She witnessed a growth of 80 per cent in sales after using WhatsApp.
Bunko Junko takes customized orders for individuals and businesses. Bhavini says that upcycling textile waste helps to uplift women by empowering them. Moreover, it is also beneficial to the environment.
