EcoLine Clothing made from recycled PET bottles
PET bottles are commonly used for packaging carbonated drinks, water, mouthwash, and vegetable oils. But they often end up in landfills, taking a long time to decompose.
To address this issue, a father-son duo from Tamil Nadu, decided to utilise them productively.
K Sankar and Senthil Sankar are making significant contributions to environmental conservation. Through their company, Shree Renga Polymers, they recycle an impressive 15 lakhs of PET bottles daily.
They actively promote their sustainable fashion clothing brand, EcoLine, which creatively repurposes discarded bottles into garments.
EcoLine specializes in manufacturing sustainable clothing like jackets, blazers, and bottoms by recycling PET bottles.
They use about eight PET bottles for a T-shirt, 20 for a jacket, and 30 for a blazer. Their goal is to raise awareness about sustainable fashion and take the concept of sustainability globally.
The B2B company manufactures yarns and fibres from discarded plastic waste, catering to the automotive and textile industries.
With an annual turnover of ₹100 crores, their products are used in the production of items such as carpets.
Senthil, inspired by his father’s vision, desired to contribute to his country and make a difference. By converting PET bottles into sustainable clothing, he highlights the significant difference in the degradation time of these products compared to single-use bottles.
To transform trash into useful products, the collected bottles are compressed into cubes and supplied to EcoLine.
They sort the bottles, remove caps and wrappers, and crush them into flakes. The flakes are then dried to reduce moisture content.
Through a melting and extrusion process, the flakes are transformed into polyester fibre, which is then converted into yarn, knitted into fabric, and tailored into garments.
With prices ranging from ₹500 to ₹6,000, the brand receives approximately 20,000 orders per month, generating an annual revenue of ₹12 crores.
Through their innovative approach to recycling and sustainable fashion, the father-son duo is making a positive impact on the environment while offering unique and eco-friendly garments to their customers.
