Green Bio’s biodegradable bottles, a smart solution to plastic waste
India’s battle against plastic waste just found a strong ally, Green Bio, a Kerala-based startup revolutionizing eco-friendly packaging.
Founded by Pradeep Kokkat and Ali Asgar, Green Bio has created water bottles that look and feel like plastic but are entirely biodegradable.
Their innovation lies in using Polylactide (PLA), a bioplastic derived from natural resources like corn and sugarcane.
PLA is different from regular plastic. It breaks down completely within 180 days. After decomposing, it leaves behind only water, carbon dioxide, and natural biomass. This means there are no harmful leftovers.
PLA looks and feels like plastic, but it does not harm the environment. It works just like normal plastic bottles.
However, it is much safer for the planet. That makes it a smart and eco-friendly choice.
The startup manufactures PLA granules, which are shaped into preforms. These can be blown into bottles of any size, from 100 ml to 1 litre.
Even the caps and labels are biodegradable, a stark contrast to regular PET bottle parts that often end up in landfills or oceans for decades.
This biodegradable alternative is already in production, with Green Bio operating under the Kerala Government’s Start-up Mission.
The founders didn’t just stop at product innovation; they’re pushing to bring this technology to manufacturers across India, aiming to replace traditional plastic bottles on a large scale.
For consumers, this means an easy switch to sustainable packaging without compromising on convenience.
The bottles are lightweight, durable, and completely safe to use, just like regular plastic, but without the toxic legacy.
Pradeep and Ali’s commitment goes beyond business. Their work is a blend of innovation and purpose, offering a practical solution to one of the country’s biggest environmental problems.
With Green Bio’s technology, the vision is clear: no plastic waste, no pollution, just nature taking its course.
