WhatsApp launches screen-sharing feature on video calls
WhatsApp has been actively introducing new features, with the beta version granting select users access to unreleased functionalities, making it highly sought-after.
Among its recent additions is the screen-sharing feature, available during video calls, aiming to rival platforms like Google Meet and Zoom.
To utilize this feature, users can open WhatsApp and find the new icon next to the camera switch option at the bottom tab.
Tapping on this icon activates the screen-sharing feature, triggering a pop-up warning about casting the phone. Upon clicking ‘Start Now,’ users can seamlessly share their screens with the other person on the call.
A confirmation message informs them that the screen share has successfully started.
The benefits of this feature are significant. It resembles the screen-sharing functionality found on other platforms like Google Meet and Zoom.
It enables users to share presentations, videos, and photos during meetings. With this capability, WhatsApp aims to position itself as a compelling alternative to these competing apps.
WhatsApp offers users complete control over the screen-share feature, allowing them to stop the recording at any time according to their preference.
Moreover, before commencing the screen share, the app ensures users’ consent is obtained by seeking permission.
However, it’s essential to be aware that while using the screen-share feature, WhatsApp gains access to all information displayed on the screen. It includes passwords, photos, messages, and payment details.
This access is necessary for the app to function correctly during screen sharing.
The introduction of the screen-sharing feature enhances the overall WhatsApp experience. It caters to the growing need for enhanced privacy and convenience during video calls.
By enabling users to share their screens, WhatsApp aims to facilitate more interactive and productive conversations, particularly in professional settings where presentations and visual aids are essential.
With this latest addition, WhatsApp continues to evolve and adapt to the changing needs of its user base.
The beta program allows a select group of users to test and experience these features before their official release, demonstrating WhatsApp’s commitment to refining and perfecting its services.
WhatsApp’s screen-sharing feature is a valuable addition to its messaging app, providing users with the ability to share their screens during video calls.
